This morning at 7:30am, our mother passed away after a nearly year long battle with cancer. We want to thank everyone who has been so kind to our mother and family throughout this time. This blog was very important to Mom. She enjoyed reading all of your posts and sharing her life with all you. We are in the process of making arrangements for her memorial service and will post information as we have it.

Deepest sympathies Melissa, Jay, & Dianna! My pa's church was just praying for you all this morning, and now we heard the news. Your mama raised incredible kids - lean on one another. Summer of the Peas (by Don Mankin)
Sitting the house
I said "I will write
a poetry of gardens".
I will put everything in.
The center of it shall be
an apple tree...but
everything shall go
in...the vines...the roots
the leaf and branch
The green and the gold.
I said "I will write
cabbages and carrots
I will make cinquains,
red and green cinquains,
out of all the peppers
triolets of the yellow
hammers of summer squash
and whole strings of haiku
of the blue flowers of peas,
and the green slippers of peas,
and the short summer of peas."
Sitting in the house
I said "I will write a poetry
of gardens"...and I did.
and it was vegetables
a prose of vegetables...
So I got up out of the house
and the tiredness of houses
and worked all day in the garden,
the whole blessed day in the garden
hoeing the young poems.
I know Kendra is at peace in the Garden.

We, at the library, are deeply saddened by the loss of Kendra’s passionate, luminous spirit. She worked at the library since 2005 and took on, with all her heart, the responsibility for the children’s programming, bringing in a host of captivating storytellers and fascinating performers to entertain our community’s youth. She imagined, organized and successfully produced the extremely popular Boogie with Baby event which was held two years running before she became ill. Her incredible love for children and their parents lent a unique charm to her tenure as the children’s librarian. It was mirrored in the joy children exhibited when they caught sight of her, bringing her drawings and little gifts of adoration and trust. The Library staff loved working with Kendra and miss her already! Please let her beautiful, warm, fun-loving light shine on in the community’s memory and nurture those qualities in all the rest of us.
I am so so sorry to hear that. I thought your dear mom was coming back to blogging. Hadn't heard from her in a while..

I came to your Mom's blog thru Mimi & Julian. Please know you are in my prayers and how much I enjoyed reading your Mom's thoughts. One could tell by how she wrote how very much she loved you.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I only knew your mother through her blog... and I am very sad to hear of her passing.
